My son

1 My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,

2 for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you prosperity.

3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.

4 Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;

6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil.

8 This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.

9 Honor the LORD with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;

10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.

11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline
and do not resent his rebuke,

12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves,
as a father
the son he delights in.

13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom,
the man who gains understanding,

Proverbs 3

I don't have a lot to say other than this seems like a pretty clear description of how to live a life honored by God. I really appreciate the way that it starts with the words "My son". I absolutely respect some fatherly advice and take it whenever I can get it. It's pretty incredible to think of the Creator of the Heavens and the earth as a father.

Today, I experienced a really cool moment. I'm on choir tour and my choir got to sing with a youth choir at a Methodist church in Atlanta and it brought me back to high school singing in church choir. We sang not because we all had the intention of having a music career but we sang to praise God and we sang because we LOVED it. Sometimes I forget that I love this. Most times, I forget the meaning of these songs and forget to thank the One who gave me the voice to sing them. Thank You Father God.

Thanks for reading!

Dreams...

Dreams can be trippy things. Why do I think things I'd never think when I'm not asleep? Why do I wake up wondering why the craziest thoughts occurred in my mind? Haha.. I didn't really mean to make that rhyme..
Seriously, how do dreams work?? I can somehow create an entire alternate world in vivid color with fictional characters and a complete history with not a single crack in the foundation. It's so real that I wake up immersed in the plot. Sometimes I'm spending time with my friends -sometimes I've created all new friends. Sometimes I'm flying and experiencing a sort of euphoria that never comes in a state of awake. Sometimes I'm in different secret worlds that no one else can find unless I invite them. Sometimes those close to me die and I wake up soaked in sweat and tears.

Crazy thing - I've never died in any of my dreams. When I was younger, I used to wake up right before I was going to be killed. After a while, I began to realize that these were MY DREAMS. I could control the outcome. Since then, any time there was any kind of attack on me or someone else in my dreams, I become the hero and wake up with some sort of subconscious victory.

I think I've been learning lately that real life is not like a dream. We are not the ones in control. God is completely in control of every situation. Often times, I hold on so tightly to what I think is right when I just need to let go and give it all to "The Dream Giver".

"The Dream Giver" is actually a pretty interesting book. It's by Bruce Wilkinson and you should check it out if you're interested in his ideas on what should be done with the "dreams" (like what you want to do with your life, not the kind when you're asleep) God (or The Dream Giver) gives you. I won't give a book review but the first half of the book is a metaphor and the second half is more literal and it's definitely something I'd recommend to someone moving into the next chapter in life, whatever that may be.

Thanks for reading.
